Weather of Kabini- blessing for flora, fauna and tourism
Once a regular “shikar” destination for British Viceroys and Indian Royalty; Kabini is a visual feast for true nature lovers. For the pleasant weather of Kabini, the flora and fauna are diverse. Many sanctuaries and a National Park have been developed in this biosphere. The parks are populated with tropical and deciduous trees like Nandi, rosewood and sandalwood for the seasonal streams and well distributed tanks all over the area.
The weather in Kabini is favorable almost round the year. The temperature during summer hovers between 21 degree to 33 degree Celsius and in winter the temperature drops even to 15 degree. Usually early summer morning and late winter evening is chilling. Best time to visit during summer is between May to June whereas in winter between October to March the weather becomes pristine and fresh which is very conducive for wildlife exploration.
Weather around Kabini is soothing if you plan to visit during the holidays of December but you will find the Bandipur sanctuary closed. For that matter you can consider the summer holidays. The pre monsoon period in March and April, brings with it the call for a large species of birds and animals sometimes alien to the spot. For the keen enthusiasts of the wildlife November to June would be better pick avoiding heavy rain. Kabini receives 100 to 150 cms of rainfall on an average.
On the whole, it is advised that considering the weather at Kabini, travelers should carry enough warm clothes during winter and cool cotton clothes during summer. And do not forget to carry first aid kit to fight poisonous tropical insects. This thickly forested region is infested with herd of elephant, leopard and wild dog. During April to October one can easily spot different kinds of mammals, reptiles, birds, crocodile, and python and so on.
